Evaluation Question 1

In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Pre-magazine creation I looked at various magazines relating to my genre to give me a view of what conventions I needed to be using

One of the magazines I drew inspiration from is the symphony magazine from the league of American orchestras. On this particular cover of theirs the conventions used are a masthead and cover lines. The small amount of conventions on the layout gives room for the image and also makes the cover look simple from a text perspective but gives the image more room to have more meaning to it. The cover also makes use of genre specific terminology to appeal more to its target audience which is something I used in my magazine to make it more suitable for my target audience.

In my magazine I have used a skyline to inform possible readers of what the magazine consists of. Also used is a masthead at the top of the page like other magazines to feel more familiar to the reader. There are cover lines to give the reader a good insight into the contents of the magazine using the best stories to attract their attention as well as using a range of different interests that are tied to my genre to attract different people to the magazine that may not usually look at magazines like this. I have also used an 'E' theory layout on the cover. My title is similar to symphony's as it uses terminology particular to that genre so that when a reader picks up the magazine they can tell straight away the type of music discussed in the magazine and the type of articles to expect. In comparison my cover page looks more complex and has more information on it for the reader about what's inside and what to expect.
